A Box of Chocolates: A Practitioner's Review of Current Trends and Developments in South African Assessment Centre and Development Centre Design and Implementation
Assessment centre technology has been used widely in
South Africa for over 30 years and seems to be gaining in popularity and
acceptability, albeit in a somewhat more “economical” mode. The
presentations will overview the development of ht assessment centre and
development centre in South Africa and discuss the latest trends.

Anthony Wilson
Freelance Management Consultants
Anthony
is an Analytical Psychologist, a graduate of the
C G Jung Centre in Dublin, Ireland. He holds an MPhil degree from
the multinational business school, International
Management Centres and the University
of Action Learning in Boulder, Colorado, USA. He is a Companion
Member of International Management Centres.
Early in
his career he was a teacher in the UK, until he was inspired to try his
hand at self-sufficiency farming on the mountainous west coast of
Ireland. He cheated somewhat on this impractical aspiration and
supplemented his meagre income with consulting in training and
development. As Carl Jung observed, “You
can’t fake the peasant.” He wrote and conducted the successful
six month full-time training programme, Women
into Management in Cork and Dublin for FAS, the Irish state training
and development agency. He practised as Jungian Analyst in Dublin at the
Asklepios Psychotherapy Centre where he was MD and Practice Leader.
Anthony has an abiding interest in Psychological Type, having written
many articles and presented conference papers on the topic. He was
formerly International Director of the Association for Psychological
Type. He is an INFJ.
He has
resided in South Africa since 1996 where until recently he worked as a
freelance consultant in the field of Organizational Psychology. He was
Regional Manager of Business School Nederland, where he chaired the MBA
viva voce panel and lectured in Action Research Methodology. Later he
became Senior Lecturer on De Montfort University’s MBA programme and
lectured in Organizational Behaviour and Understanding Contemporary
Organizations. He has supervised many MBA theses in both institutions.
He was a course designer and the co-author of the University of South
Africa (UNISA) course Wellness
in the Workplace and is a Trauma Counselor for ABSA – a South
African bank. From 2000 until 2006 he was an Associate Consultant with
SHL where his work included Assessment Centre observation and reporting,
job analysis and 360 degree and psychometric test feedback. He has been
on consulting assignments for SHL in South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia,
Botswana and Kenya.
In July
2006 he joined Saville Consulting as a consultant. Saville Consulting
was founded by Professor Peter Saville after leaving SHL. Among its
